U.S. stock-index futures struggled for direction on Thursday, ahead of the usual weekly first-time jobless claims and results from Wal-Mart. The Department of Labor will publish initial claims data for last week at 8:30 a.m. ET. Consensus forecasts are for a rise in claims to 295,000, from 289,000 in the previous week.
